Stellan Fryxell is an architect, urbanist and partner in Tengbom Architects and an Adjunct Professor in Spatial Planning at Blekinge Institute of Technology BTH. Stellan is working with sustainable urban planning, building design and is lecturing about sustainability and urbanism.
Stellan Fryxell has among other projects worked on the Hammarby Sjöstad project since 1997 in master planning and several statutory plans (Kasper Salin Architecture Award 2005) design guidelines, design of public spaces, coordination and urban management, environmental program, infrastructure, following-up etc. Clients: Stockholm City Planning Administration and Stockholm City Development Administration. Stellan has also designed GlashusEtt Environmental Technique and Information Centre building with double glass facades, fuel cell, solar panels etc. Stellan is or has been working with beside in Stockholm various projects in southern Sweden and in Oslo, Riga, London, Dublin, Ostrava, Shanghai, Chongqing, Huludao, Wuxi (MIPIM Architectural Review Future Project Awards 2011, Winner Big Urban Projects; Taihu Sino Swedish Eco-City and 2nd prize in 2011 Shanghai Urban Planning Awards, Sustaina100 nominee and 3rd Prize in China NATIONAL awards in Urban Planning), Saint Petersburg, and Xi’an. Stellan is a SymbioCity-Expert in the collaboration between SKL International, Duyun and Eskilstuna.

Stellan is the member of The International Federation of Consulting Engineers’ (FIDIC’s) Committee of Sustainable Development and representing the Swedish Federation of Consulting Engineers and Architects in The European Federation of Engineering Consultancy Associations’ Sustainable Development Task Force. Stellan was also a member of University College London’s steering committee on Urban Energy Systems.
Prior to joining Tengbom in 1991 Stellan worked with Ahlqvist and Co architects also in cooperation with Ralph Erskine, and worked in New York with the Regional Planning Association 1981. Stellan was working with Stockholm City Planning Department for 1974 -1987. Stellan has completed a Masters in Architecture in 1974 at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and completed further Masters in Architecture 1984 at the Royal University College of Fine Arts.
